Speakers

Dr. Iyad Abumoghli, Founder and Director of UNEP’s Faith for Earth Initiative, has more than 35 years of experience with international organizations, the private sector, and scientific institutions. Dr. Abumoghli’s expertise focus on strategic planning, sustainable development, natural resources management, knowledge and innovation and interfaith collaboration. Previously, Dr. Abumoghli held several leading positions including as Regional Director and Representative of UNEP in West Asia, Director of Knowledge and Innovation at UNDP’s Regional Office in Cairo, Senior Environment Advisor at UNDP’s Regional Facility in Beirut, Global Practice Manager for UNDP’s Energy and Environment Group in New York, and Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP in Jordan. Dr. Abumoghli holds a doctorate degree in Engineering from the University of Bath/UK, and is an outstanding graduate of the Virtual Development Academy - Johns University.

Azmaira Alibhai is a Faith & Ecosystems Coordinator (Consultant) at UNEPs Faith for Earth Initiative with 3 years’ experience in legal research and programme management. She graduated with an Undergraduate Degree in Law from Strathmore University in 2019, specializing in international law. Azmaira has worked at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as a Knowledge Management Intern in 2019.

Claire is a Young graduate of Sorbonne University (Paris) with an MSc in International Development, Claire’s main research investigate the social and human rights dimensions of climate change and environmental degradation. With Amnesty International and The Hugo Observatory, she promoted an inclusive approach of the current social and environmental challenges and advocated for the most vulnerable populations, disproportionately affected by natural and industrial disasters. In line with the conviction that environmental protection and human rights are interrelated and mutually responsive, she is board member of the Global Network for Human Rights and the Environment (Europe Regional Team) and the Environment Commission of the Ligue des droits humains. As a member of the Faith for Earth Initiative of UN Environment Programme, Claire is assisting the Working Group on Pollution Action, by enhancing and coordinating multi-faith based action towards a pollution-free planet. 

Euan McCartney is a programme management officer at the Faith of Earth Initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme, having initially joined as an intern in October 2019. Euan holds a BA in Anthropology and International Development from the University of Sussex as well as an MSC in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam. He is passionate about exploring new avenues to tackle socio-environmental challenges which is what brought him to the Faith for Earth Initiative. In his free time he enjoys the great outdoors, various sports reading and cooking.
