Kunming, China Conference Ecosystems and Biodiversity

15 July 2020 – New dates have been announced for three key UN meetings, including the UN Biodiversity Conference, crucial to the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. 
 
As approved by the Bureau, the fifteenth meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-15), originally scheduled for October 2020, will now be held 17-30 May 2021, in Kunming, China. 
 
Dates and venue have also been announced for the meetings of the Convention’s two subsidiary bodies.

Workshop Climate change

The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) is organizing three webinars to share early lessons from the first call for submission of applications to the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) programme. The launch of this new USD 10 million pilot small grants programme was announced at COP25 in Madrid. UNEP, CTCN and UNDP are administrating the AFICA, offering technical assistance (UNEP/CTCN) and grant funding (UNDP) to developing countries.

At the 7th Asia Pacific Adaptation Network, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is co-leading the Nature-based Resilience Stream together with IUCN. The Planning and Processes session will cover integrating Ecosystem-based Adaptation in national adaptation planning, and it will take place on March 9th at 14:00-15:30 (Bangkok time).

Recognising this, the Netherlands government will host an online international Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS Online) on 25 January 2021, the first ever dedicated platform of global leaders aimed at firmly placing the world on a pathway to accelerated adaptation and resilience.

Groningen, Netherlands UN Day Climate change

2020 is internationally declared as the year of action. This year is intended to bring people together and take joint actions against climate change. On 25 January 2021, world leaders will meet online during the Climate Adaptation Summit to discuss climate adaptation, make agreements and turn to action. As host cities of the Global Center on Adaptation, both Groningen and Rotterdam are organizing various activities, including a Climate Adaptation Week, in the run-up to the Climate Adaptation Summit.
