ーーPlease tell us about Penang's involvement with UNEP-IETC to date.

Penang direct involvement with UNEP-IETC since year 2016 have assisted the education and awareness on waste segregation at source policy on reuse and composting.

ーーPlease tell us about the challenges and successes Penang has achieved so far, and challenges for the future to realize a zero waste society.

With the implementation of the WSAS and NSUP, Penang Green Council undertake various campaign to engage the local community thru house-to-house educational programs, roadshows, dialogues series and educational programs. The way forward and future perspectives are to increase a sense of community ownership. It also support the Penang 2030 vision as a Family focus green and smart state that inspires the nation.

Trash Free Penang is to enhance circular economy practices /4R practices (Reduce, Recover, Recycle and Repurposes). That means identifying problems and challenges, community engagement. Training workshop, Educational and Recycling centre, collaboration and commitments, implementing and monitoring.

ーーWhat are your expectations for UNEP-IETC in the future?

UNEP-IETC can expand their roles to collaborate with partners with the technology and methodology information.
