• Overview

The Government of Uganda (GoU) is committed to the realization of the Goals and targets enshrined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Thence, the GoU has integrated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the National Development frameworks, including the Uganda Vision 2040, the Second National Development Plan (NDP II & III under development), and the Sector Development Plans. As the country seeks to transform its society from a peasant to a modern and prosperous country within the next 30 years, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and European Union are implementing the SWITCH Africa Green Project (SAG) Phase II contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) as a pathway to the contribution of the above initiative.

To achieve the transition towards the inclusive green economy, policy plays a major role in providing an enabling environment coupled with awareness creation and sensitization for the different key players.  However, due to the severe economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic there is a need to spur deliberate discussions among the policy makers and forge a way forward towards green economy recovery through policy support and strengthening national ownership on a green and inclusive economic recovery.

The National Policy Dialogue provides a platform for stakeholder’s engagement to generate discussions and strategic linkages towards green economy recovery in Uganda. The event is jointly organized by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with funding from the European Union.
