On 9 May the UNEP/MAP Coordinator Tatjana Hema met with Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of the Environment of Tunisia, and heard an unequivocal statement of support to the Mediterranean Action Plan and commitment to the implementation of the Convention for the protection of the marine environment and the coastal region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention).
Ms. Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of the Environment of Tunisia, announced on 11 May 2022 the launch of a nationwide communication campaign aiming to boost citizen awareness and participation in the country’s ambitious efforts to phase out single-use plastic bags. The campaign titled “Let us be responsible” is supported by the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre ‘MedWaves’ specialized in sustainable consumption and production.
Athens, 12 April 2022—The Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/MAP) and the Circle of Mediterranean Parliamentarians for Sustainable Development (COMPSUD) announced a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to foster bilateral cooperation for healthy marine and coastal ecosystems that underpin sustainable development in the Mediterranean region. Tatjana Hema, the UNEP/MAP Coordinator, and Moh Rejdali, the COMPSUD Chairperson, signed the MoU at a ceremony held on 12 April 2022 in Zappeion Megaron in Athens, Greece.

The UNEP/MAP Coordinator Tatjana Hema took part in the “2020 Forum on Marine Protected Areas in the Mediterranean” (28-29 November 2021, Oceanographic Museum of Monaco). SPA/RAC, the Tunis-based UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre specializing in conservation and biodiversity, is one of the four institutions that organised the forum.
