Corinth, 11 July 2025 - The Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD) concluded its 21st meeting in Corinth, Greece, reaffirming the region’s SD strategy as a key driver of the green transition.
MCSD Members endorsed the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD) 2026–2035 , which will be submitted to COP24 later this year. While the six objectives of the MSSD were duly reconfirmed, several new elements were introduced at the strategic and target levels, aimed at strengthening regional and sub-regional action to boost SDG delivery in close alignment with relevant global commitments.
The meeting highlighted progress achieved since 2023 on flagship projects and underscored the need for stronger engagement with local actors to embed sustainability at the community level and bolster regional stability.
“We are witnessing momentum build across the Mediterranean, but we must work even harder to turn strategies into action on the ground,” said Tatjana Hema, Coordinator of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP).
MCSD members welcomed the proposed improvements to the MSSD monitoring dashboard and called for enhanced outreach and funding to expand stakeholder participation.
The MCSD further recommended expanding its membership to include women’s and youth organizations and discussed sustainability priorities for UNEP/MAP’s upcoming Programme of Work.
