In order to articulate responses to regional challenges on the issues related to waste management, the UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office, with the support of the International Environmental Technology Center (IETC), established the University Consortium for Sustainable Waste Management in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2016.

UNEP Sustainability is a new initiative that started in June 2020. This new original animation explains the project -What is it? What do they do? What does "sustainability actions" mean?

A new video on marine plastic pollution by Osaka City is now available on their Youtube Channel.  Osaka, a host city of the G20 summit held in June 2019, created a video that explains the current issue of marine plastic litter. It also introduces Japanese technologies and products that are contributing to pollution reduction for the sustainable future.

Internships at UNEP IETC is a great opportunity for students and recent graduates who are interested in promoting and delivering environmentally sound waste management technologies. With the expected spike in healthcare waste from COVID-19 pandemic, national and local governments, and health organizations all over the world need to assess and select appropriate technologies for the destruction of this waste.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) has taken several measures in light of the COVID-19 outbreak to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on UNEP IETC personnel, their families, our visitors, and our neighbors. While the current public health emergency has disrupted normal working arrangements, the delivery of work continues.

In celebration of the International Women’s Day, UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the video series, GENDER AND WASTE NEXUS. The waste sector is assumed to be gender neutral, but gender inequalities and norms are embedded in almost every aspect of waste management, leading to a gendered division of labour.

Event Postponed “UNEP Sustainability Action Kick Off Dialogue” Originally scheduled to run on March 5, 2020, “UNEP Sustainability Action Kick Off Dialogue” has been postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak and prevent the spread of infection. The schedule has temporarily placed on hold until a final decision can be made on staging the event after ensuring a safe and secure environment.

IETC is recruiting an experienced copy-editor as an Individual Contractor to proof-read and copy-edit IETC’s new report. The duration of the contract is 2 weeks with 4 working days, and the contract is expected to start around late March or early April 2020 (subject to the administration process).

Mr. Onogawa, a director of The IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (CCET) visited UNEP IETC. Having a productive meeting with IETC staff, we are determined to amplify our work to influence governments on the waste sector on a wider scale.
