Air pollution is the greatest environmental health risk of our time. Exposure can lead to stroke, heart and lung disease and more. Approximately 6.7 million people die prematurely due to air pollution each year. It also endangers ecosystems and economies, making the need for action from all stakeholders urgent.

On the fourth annual International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, everyone is invited to come #TogetherForCleanAir. This year’s observance focuses on our shared responsibility to overcome air pollution, the need for strong partnerships across key sectors and levels of government, and increased investments.

Access to a healthy environment is a human right. By shifting to renewable energy, adopting clean cooking, transforming global transport and food systems, and more, we can work to overcome air pollution and promote clean air for all.

Every year, on 7 September, the world celebrates the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies. The day aims to raise awareness and facilitate actions to improve air quality. It is a global call to find new ways of doing things, to reduce the amount of air pollution we cause, and ensure that everyone, everywhere can enjoy their right to breathe clean air.
