The aim of the workshop is to exchange information and agree on the necessary measures required to strengthen the enforcement of the licensing system on ODS trade between the seven selected countries and to prevent unauthorized movement of ODS. The Pilot NOU and Customs Twinning Workshop and back to back parallel Border Dialogues will set up a cooperation mechanism between the countries.
This meeting is organised by UN Environment OzonAction Africa Office. It is part of the Regional Network service that OzonAction's Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) provides to Article 5 (developing) countries as part its role as an Implementing Agency of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.
The Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer will help protect the climate by phasing down high global warming potential hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are commonly used as refrigerants. Promoting energy efficiency of air conditioning and refrigeration technology can significantly increase those climate co-benefits.
2017 marked the 30 anniverary of the Montreal Protocol.
