Enforcement of HCFC Licensing Systems: Beyond the Customs Check-point Sharing examples of best practices from Lao PDR, Mongolia and the Federated States of Micronesia. 

Bangkok, 1 July 2019 – National technical and vocational training holds one of the keys that can unlock the potential of one of the world’s most effective multilateral environmental agreements for even greater environmental achievements and labour force development. This was the theme behind a landmark workshop organised by UN Environment in Bangkok last week in which over 60 representatives from 21 countries across Asia gathered ahead of the 41st Meeting of Open-Ended Working Group of Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles, 24 June 2019 – The historic Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer entered into force six months ago, on 1 January 2019, ushering in a new era of enhanced ozone and climate protection.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 24 April 2019 — The General Directorate of Environment Protection, Ministry of Environment organized a national stakeholders meeting in Phnom Penh on 24 April 2019 on the implementation of the enabling activities for HFC phase-down. The meeting was supported by UN Environment’s OzonAction Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP).  

PARIS, FRANCE, 28 February — United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) OzonAction has joined the growing coalition of partners around the world that are supporting World Refrigeration Day (WRD), a newly established annual celebration of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat-pump sector’s myriad contributions to societal goals – including environmental protection. The first celebration, “WRD-2019,” will take place this 26 June and thereafter on the same day each year.

Paris, FRANCE, 26 February 2019 - UN Environment Programme (UNEP) OzonAction organized the Second OzonAction Global Inter-Regional and Parallel Networks Meeting for National Ozone Officers from 17-20 February 2019 on the premises of UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. These events were organised by the OzonAction Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) as part of UNEP’s work programme as an Implementing Agency of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

ATLANTA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 16 January 2019 — In the margins of the ASHRAE Winter Conference and in the presence of members of the ASHRAE Associate Societies Alliance (AASA) representing more than sixty international refrigeration and air-conditioning engineering associations from all continents, ASHRAE and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) OzonAction launched their sixth biennial joint workplan under the theme “Refrigerant Management for Developing Economies.”

GUANGZHOU, CHINA, 25 November 2018 – Twenty-five refrigeration and air-conditioning master technicians and industry experts from Bangladesh attended a training workshop in China on the campus of Guangzhou Light Industry Technician College from 22-24 November. This specialized training focused on good practices and safe use of flammable technology used in air conditioners and fridges.

GUJARAT, INDIA, 24 November 2018 - REFCOLD 2018, India’s first exposition focusing specifically on the refrigeration industry and the cold chain sector was organized by the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE). This major event, which was held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 22-24 November, provided a platform for all the relevant stakeholders in India’s cold chain sector to share best practices and information on the latest technologies.

JOHANNESBURG, 26 October 2018 - National Ozone and Customs Officers from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region (Africa Anglophone Network) gathered at the Birchwood Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa from 24-26 October 2018, for a three-day Twinning Workshop and Border Dialogues. The workshop was organised by UN Environment OzonAction in collaboration with the Government of South Africa.

BANGKOK, 19 October 2018 – Twenty-six Ozone and Customs Officers from nine countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia Networks attended a Twinning Workshop and back to back Parallel Border Dialogues, which was organised by UN Environment OzonAction from 17-19 October 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The catalyst for the gathering was the recent agreement of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances the Deplete the Ozone Layer.

European and Central Asian countries, the Ozone Secretariat and implementing agencies of the Montreal Protocol met in Antalya to share information and lessons learned from their efforts to reduce the use of ozone-depleting and global warming chemicals.

BANGKOK, 29 September 2018 — Following a successful training of new National Ozone Officers from the Pacific Island Countries, UN Environment OzonAction organized a similar training for Ozone Officers from South Asia and South East Asia. The two-day training, also conducted in Bangkok, Thailand was held from 28-29 September 2018.

BANGKOK, 29 September 2018 - The first Thematic Meeting on the Implementation of the Initial Obligations for Countries that have Ratified the Montreal Protocol’s Kigali Amendment was held on 27 September 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand as part of the Pacific Islands Countries’ National Ozone Officers Network and Thematic Meeting held from 27-29 September.

PARIS, FRANCE, 17 July 2018 — The Second International Stakeholders Workshop on the Refrigeration Servicing Sector (RSS), was held in Paris, France from 17 to18 July 2018. The workshop, organised by UN Environment’s OzonAction, has brought together international refrigeration and air-conditioning associations and experts, delegates from the Multilateral Fund, Bilateral and Implementing Agencies, , including officials from UN Environment’s OzonAction regional offices.  

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA, 28 June 2018 - The third in the series of Twinning Workshops on Energy - Efficient and Climate-Friendly Refrigeration and Air Conditioning concluded in Guatemala City today. The workshop brought together two traditionally separate  communities from the countries of Central and South America – those responsible for managing compliance with the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and those responsible for national energy policies.

GABORONE, BOTSWANA, 25 May 2018 — The first regional workshop in Africa for promoting energy-efficient cooling took place in the capital of Botswana under a unique initiative that is “twinning” government officials together in the common cause of climate protection. The workshop brought together two traditionally separate communities – those responsible for managing compliance with the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and those who craft national energy policies.
