Biography

Chef Leyla is a prominent chef in the Middle Eastern region, with a solid 1.3 million follower base on Instagram and 2 million on Facebook. Chef Leyla first started as a chef and host on the cooking channel Fatafeat TV in 2009, since then she has developed a strong presence in the Middle Eastern food scene. She has taught classes at numerous restaurants and schools, been featured in publications and workshops, is the founder of L Cuisine Catering, is the brand ambassador for some of the most prominent brands in the Arab region, an influencer on social media platforms and TV shows, and an avid supporter of Middle Eastern Chefs. Chef Leyla was also recognized by the Facebook #SheCreates Women of 2021 as one of the “leading women in the media industry throughout the Middle East”.

In 2021, Chef Leyla was approached by the Regional Office for West Asia to take part in the Recipe of Change campaign and become a voice on the topic of food waste in the region. Since then we have developed more than 6 awareness raising videos together, she has participated in several talk shows to convey the message on food waste, and has shared zero waste recipe ideas and tips and tricks to reduce food waste at home. For the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on the 29th of September 2022, Chef Leyla shared several videos to cover the activities happening in the United Arab Emirates along with two zero waste recipes.

Finally, Chef Leyla is an inspiration for the young women of the region as she represents leadership, commitment, and integrity pushing women to pursue their goals and careers and be active members of society.

With her growing network and influence in the industry, she has the power to promote UNEP’s work in reducing and eliminating food loss and waste and supporting the Recipe of Change campaign.
