Strengthening National Capacity of the Republic of Armenia in Sound Chemicals and Waste Management for Implementation of the Stockholm, Basel, Rotterdam, Minamata Conventions and SAICM

Project Summary

The project from the Republic of Armenia aims to improve and strengthen the institutional and regulatory framework for sound management of chemicals and waste throughout their lifecycle in the Republic of Armenia in a sustainable manner. The project will focus on reinforcing and strengthening the national chemicals and waste coordination mechanism while also promoting the adoption and enforcement of relevant secondary legislation. The project will also hold a comprehensive training programme aimed at concerned stakeholders, including business. These activities will ultimately lead to ensuring the effective implementation of obligations under Basel and Stockholm Conventions and the Minamata Convention.

Project Objectives

The overall project goal is improving the sustainable institutional and regulatory framework for sound management of chemicals and waste throughout their lifecycle in the Republic of Armenia. The project seeks to

  • reinforce and strengthen the national chemicals and waste coordination mechanism,
  • promote the adoption and enforcement of the waste and chemicals secondary legislation, and
  • conduct comprehensive training of the concerned stakeholders, including business, and ensuring the effective implementation and improving country’s reporting obligations under Basel, Stockholm and Minamata Conventions.
