Jaydip Jani from Mahuva, Gujarat, leads campaigns against plastic waste. Jaydip’s motto is “a good plan implemented today is better than a perfect plan implemented tomorrow.”

When he and a group of friends visited Bhavani Beach in Mahuva they were shocked to see so much plastic rubbish and decided to try and do something about it. They organized beach clean-ups and raised funds to conduct awareness-raising campaigns, using surveys, banners and multimedia, including a video.

Jaydip founded the group which is now called the Environment Conservation Youth Club. Apart from collecting plastic waste and setting up dustbins on the beach, the club made 200 eco-bricks from plastic waste. He believes his initiative to run beach clean-ups has changed people’s perception of plastic products, and club members were heartened recently to see the return of dolphins and endangered species of crabs in the area.
