Cities across Latin America and the Caribbean continue to strengthen collaboration and knowledge-sharing through the webinar series “Accelerating the Circular Economy of Plastics in Cities,” led by the Intercity Network on Plastics Circular Economy.
On April 30, the third session of the series, “Policy and Certification Instruments for Plastics Circularity,” brought together experts from Secretariat of the Environment of Mexico City, the Technological Center of Plastics (CTplas for its initials in Spanish), The Environmental Alliance of the Americas, and and the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT for its initials in Portugues). The session showcased practical experiences and policy approaches to address plastic pollution and advance circular economy solutions at the city level.
Discussions highlighted the critical role of regulatory frameworks, certification systems, and cross-sector collaboration in enabling more effective and scalable responses to plastic waste challenges.
The webinar series continues with two upcoming sessions under “Accelerating the Circular Economy of Plastics in Cities”. Session 4 will talk about “Design and Implementation of the Plastics Monitoring Mechanism” and Session 5 about “Education and Awareness for the Circular Economy of Plastics”.
These sessions will further explore key enablers for circularity, including data and monitoring systems, as well as education and public awareness to drive behavioral change.
The Intercity Network remains committed to supporting cities in the region as they advance toward more sustainable and circular approaches to plastics management.
