May 2026 — The Intercity Network on Plastics Circular Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean successfully held the third session of its webinar series “Policy and Certification Instruments for Plastics Circularity,” on April 30.
The session brought together experts from the Secretariat of the Environment of Mexico City the Technological Center of Plastics (ctplas for its initials in Spanish), The Environmental Alliance of the Americas, and the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT for its initials in Portugues), who shared experiences, case studies, and regulatory approaches to address plastic pollution through circular economy strategies.
The discussion highlighted the importance of policy frameworks, certification systems, and cross-sector collaboration as key enablers to accelerate the transition toward a more transparent, just, and sustainable plastic management practice across the region.
The webinar series continues with two upcoming sessions under “Accelerating the Circular Economy of Plastics in Cities”. Session 4 will talk about “Design and Implementation of the Plastics Monitoring Mechanism” and Session 5 about “Education and Awareness for the Circular Economy of Plastics”.
The two remaining sessions in the series will address strengthening monitoring systems, as well as promoting education and awareness, both critical to advancing circular economy adoption in the region.
The Intercity Network continues to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration among cities, institutions, and stakeholders committed to reducing plastic pollution and advancing circular solutions across Latin America and the Caribbean.
