Bonn Climate Change Conference 2023

The 58th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SB 58) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place at the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) in Bonn, Germany, from 5 to 15 June 2023.

Building on the mandates that emerged from COP 27 in Egypt last year, the conference will host a large number of mandated events and continue discussions on issues of critical importance, such as the global stocktake, global goal on adaptation, just transition, loss and damage and the mitigation work programme. The conference is expected to make progress on these and other important issues and prepare draft decisions for adoption at COP 28 / CMP 18 / CMA 5 in the UAE in December 2023

Technology Needs Assessment event with financial actors

Date: Tuesday 6th of June         Time: 13.15-14.30 CET            Location: Bonn Room   

The objective of this event is to highlight results of the Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs) and facilitate discussions amongst TNA stakeholders and financial actors on the urgent need for climate finance.

Speakers include TNA experts, financial institutions, private sector actors, political decision makers, research and academia and NGOs

The event is co-organized with UNFCCC.

Global Stocktake Technical Dialogue 1.3

Date: Tuesday 6th of June       Time: 15.00-18.00 CET           Location: World Café Station 4

UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre and the iGST Adaptation Working Group are hosting the GST Technical Dialogue 1.3. Join us for brain-storming and interactive discussions on the Global Stocktake facilitated by experts. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit a new station every half hour.

 

Cool Leadership in a Hot World: Enabling a Global Transition to Sustainable Cooling

Organizers: United Arab Emirates (UAE) COP28 Presidency, the United Nations Environment Programme’s Cool Coalition, Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)

Recognizing the vital role of sustainable cooling in tackling climate change, delivering on the energy transition, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the COP28 UAE Presidency announced the development of a Global Cooling Pledge and a menu of options - to be featured prominently at COP28. The side event aims to rally momentum for global action and increased ambition on sustainable cooling on the road to a Cool COP28. It will achieve this by showcasing the international collaboration on the Global Cooling Pledge to high-level country representatives and private sector stakeholders and will also outline national best practices to assess and meet the demand for sustainable cooling through plans, policies, and actions.

Support opportunities available to developing country Parties for implementing MRV/ETF arrangements.

Communicating reliable, transparent and comprehensive information on climate actions and support is important in the climate change process. Part of the event is a presentation on the support for developing countries in the transition to the Enhanced Transparency Framework provided by the Capacity-building Initiative forTransparency – Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP).

 

CBIT-GSP Inception & Launch of the Climate Transparency Platform

Join us for the Inception of the Capacity-building Initiative for #Transparency – Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP), a global climate transparency project supporting #developingcountries meet the requirements of the #EnhancedTransparencyFramework of the #ParisAgreement.

The event will introduce the different support modalities of the CBIT-GSP and launch the new Climate Transparency Platform, a vibrant hub of knowledge, ideas, and discussions for the #climatetransparency community.
