• Overview

When: 9:00-10:30 on Friday 15 August 2025

Where: Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Lusaka, Zambia

This event is being held at the NAP Expo 2025.

This session brings together adaptation experts from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and international organizations to explore how innovation can improve the formulation and implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). LDCs face specific barriers, including the underdocumentation of local solutions and limited access to advanced tools like AI and probabilistic modeling, which are often expensive and require technical expertise.

With the 2025 NAP deadline nearing, the session will feature insights from countries such as Zambia and Somalia, alongside input from institutions like UNU, UNCDF, and UNEP. Discussions will focus on short-term opportunities, lessons learned, and how local-level implementation can be strengthened by integrating traditional knowledge with cutting-edge innovation. The session will also highlight how international support can bridge gaps and accelerate effective adaptation.

Participants can expect to learn about successful local innovations, how to better embed adaptation in policy and planning, and how to scale innovative approaches through global partnerships and funding. The session aims to spark long-term momentum for inclusive, locally grounded, and technologically informed adaptation strategies well beyond the NAP Expo 2025.
