When: 17 November at 14:30-15:30 (UTC-3)
Where: German Pavilion, Blue Zone, COP30, Belém, Brazil
This high-level event, taking place as part of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), is being hosted by German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Colombia, and UNEP.
Background
Climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation are accelerating - and no country can afford to tackle them in isolation.
While each of the Rio Conventions has its specificities, they intersect on many fronts. There is now growing momentum, potential and opportunities for more coordinated implementation and policy coherence.
The event capitalizes on these opportunities and is designed as a practical, solutions-driven conversation, bringing insights from a global stakeholder dialogue series directly to the COP Presidencies. It will feature the launch of a White Paper that outlines how countries can align planning, financing, monitoring and reporting to deliver more coherent climate-nature-land outcomes.
Objectives
- Launch White Paper with key recommendations from the stakeholder dialogues
- Deliver take-aways to Rio Convention presidencies to leverage COP30 as a strategic moment for coordinated climate-nature action
- Mobilize political support for aligning planning, reporting and financing across the Rio conventions that enables effective implementation and action
