THE THIRD INTER-MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT

African health and environment ministers will gather in Libreville, Gabon on 6–9 November for the third Inter-Ministerial Conference on Health and Environment (IMCHE). The aim of the conference will be to sustain the political commitment made at the inaugural Libreville Conference in 2008 on enhanced inter-sectoral actions and co-benefits for human health and the environment, which form part of governments' engagement towards sustainable development in the African region.

The conference will also look at the progress made and the challenges preventing the scaling-up of successful initiatives.

Jointly organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UN Environment, and hosted by the Government of Gabon, the conference aims at stimulating policies, investments around the interlinkages between health and environmental sectors, agree on a strategic action plan and identify emerging threats within the context of global health security.

The conference comes a decade after the historic endorsement of the Libreville Declaration by the African Ministers of Health and Environment which committed governments to take the required measures to stimulate synergies between health and the environment.

The conference will consist of an expert meeting to be held from 6 to 7 November 2018 and a ministerial segment to be held from 8 to 9 November.
