- Overview
Prior to the UNEA the 15th Global Major Groups and Stakeholder Forum (GMGSF) will take place on 21-22 June 2014, just before the United Nations Environment Assembly of UNEP (UNEA) meets.
The GMGSF aims at facilitating the preparations of Major Groups and Stakeholders accredited to UNEP towards the First United Nations Environmental Assembly, allowing them to discuss the main UNEA themes and to prepare their input to UNEA. The Forum is self-organized by Major Groups and Stakeholder through the Major Groups Facilitating Committee.
During the Forum, UNEP staff and experts from civil society will give updates and background information on main UNEA themes and on opportunities for Major Groups and Stakeholder to participate and intervene in UNEA session. A highlight of the event will be an open dialogue with Mr. Achim Steiner, the Executive Director of UNEP, during which the GMGSF participants will have the opportunity to interact with Mr. Steiner on any topic they wish to raise. It is also hoped that there will be a productive discussion with respect to UNEP’s new Stakeholder Engagement Policy that will hopefully be approved by UNEA.
