Latin America and the Caribbean Forum of Major Groups and Stakeholders (MGS)

In preparation of the XXII Meeting of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean and the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5), this open Forum will bring together Major Groups and Stakeholders (MGS) in order to discuss two main topics: civil society as a driver of change and for leaving no one behind in the post-Covid-19 recovery efforts, and the role of civil society and the youth in shaping and implementing the environmental dimension of sustainable development in the region.

Organized by the UNEP’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Forum will be coordinated by the UNEPs civil society regional facilitators with the support of the Latin American and the Caribbean Engagement Mechanism (LACEMOS).

The last consultative meeting, which brought all parts to a more active engagement, took place on November 23^rd 2020. Based on the outcomes, an inclusive process for the preparation of the regional statement for UNEA 5 was undertaken by virtual exchange during December 2020.

The upcoming Forum will be a unique platform to present the key messages and contributions from the region’s civil society, share updated information and reinforce dialogue and coordination for increasing the participation and the engagement of civil society and the youth in the regional and global environmental agendas.
