The 11th Executive Board meeting of the Special Programme was held in hybrid format on the 26 and 27 March 2026. The meeting welcomed the new representatives who will be serving on the Special Programme Executive Board for the 2026-2028 term. As per our rotational system, these individuals will bring their expertise and dedication to advancing our mission over the next two years.
During the meeting, the Board received an update on the Programme's financial situation and on country project implementation. Decisions adopted included interventions to be taken on specific country projects, next steps for the eighth-round approved projects, and the launch of the ninth funding round.
Projects approved in the eighth round of funding
The projects approved in the eighth funding round remain subject to the availability of resources. The Secretariat and donors are actively working to secure the funding required for implementation. Additional contributions may become available in early 2027, which would allow these projects to move forward.
The Executive Board has authorized the Secretariat to work with focal points of these projects to review and strengthen the proposals, taking into account guidance provided by the Executive Board, and to prepare for signature of project agreements as soon as funds become available.
Ninth Round of Applications
The Executive Board also approved the arrangements for the ninth round of applications that was launched on 15 May 2026 with the deadline of 20 July 2026 subject to the availability of funds.
