UNEP adopts innovative communication as a driving force for empowered environmental advocacy. This database is dedicated to a collection of projects and activities that demonstrate how faith and interfaith actors, indigenous groups, and local communities contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Background

In 2020, Faith for Earth partnered with the Parliament of World Religions, Bhumi Global, and the United Religions Initiative to publish a landmark Progress & Outlook Report on Faith Action on the UN Sustainbale Development Goals to commemorate 5 years after the launch of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Report focused on mapping the contributions of Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) to the SDGs, highlighting impactful projects and providing recommendations for achieving greater impact.

The results of this exercise signaled the need for a robust interfaith database to celebrate key achievements in the 'religion and ecology' movement and promote cross-sectoral partnerships.

In 2021, the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology (Yale FORE) offered its expertise for hosting a public online database and a tool for change and to offer impactful voices for change.

The Database seeks to solicit the existing work and monumental efforts by FBOs, indigenous peoples, and local communities in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals, facilitating the production of annual thematic reports demonstrating interfaith global, regional and local efforts.
