• Overview

According to the latest report from the World Health Organization's Global Surveillance System on Antimicrobial Resistance (GLASS), one in six bacterial infections is resistant to antibiotic treatment, with a sustained increase in high-risk Gram-negative bacteria.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) also affects water, soil, biodiversity, and food production, and these impacts are intensified by climate change and water stress, especially in contexts with high environmental pressure.

This webinar will be held in the lead-up to the First Regional Meeting on AMR for the Americas and the Caribbean (March 23–27) and aims to provide a technical and political forum for exchanging progress and identifying gaps in the implementation of National Action Plans (NAPs).

In Latin America and the Caribbean, several countries have developed or updated NAPs, but challenges persist in financing, technical capacity, integrated surveillance, and intersectoral coordination, which limit their effective implementation. The exchange between governments, regional organizations, experts and civil society will allow for the identification of common priorities and provide strategic input for the regional meeting.

The webinar will be held in Spanish and Portuguese
