At the resumed fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2), a historic resolution (5/14) was adopted to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment with the ambition to complete the negotiations by end of 2024. The instrument is to be based on a comprehensive approach that addresses the full life cycle of plastic. In this spirit, the upcoming World Environment Day 2023, under #BeatPlasticPollution, will focus on solutions to plastic pollution.

The United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office in West Asia is excited to invite you to participate in a stakeholder’s dialogue session on plastics circularity in West Asia. The objective of the stakeholders' dialogue is to bring together stakeholders across the plastics value chain to discuss challenges faced by industry and identify potential opportunities that would help industry transition towards a circular economy for plastics.

The target audience is industry stakeholders operating in West Asia countries, who represent both the upstream (e.g., resin producers & plastic product manufacturers) and the downstream (e.g., waste collectors and recyclers) plastics value chain.

The event will take place on May 22, 2023, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Beirut time (UCT +3) and will be conducted virtually. The event will consist of plenary sessions and breakout sessions. The plenary sessions will include presentations and discussions on plastic pollution and plastic circularity, followed by two breakout sessions with representatives from the upstream and downstream stakeholder groups.

As a stakeholder in the plastics industry, your input is critical to the success of this dialogue. We believe that by working together, we can identify solutions that benefit all stakeholders, from manufacturers to consumers.
