Participants and target audience
The regional consultation will bring together Major Groups and Stakeholders (MGS) accredited to UN Environment, non-accredited regional MGS partners, UN Environment staff, the Regional Environmental Center’s CSO network, ECO Forum members, and resource people on Environment Assembly’s theme.
Purpose and Objectives of the Meeting
The scope of the 2 day consultation is to exchange and discuss latest development in UN Environment, including UN Environment’s efforts on delivering the environmental dimension of the 2030 agenda and preparation for the 2017 Environment Assembly.

Regional Consultation Meeting in Latin America and the Caribbean: Puntarenas, Costa Rica, 7-8 June 2017
The Regional Consultation Meeting for Latin American and Caribbean Major Groups and Stakeholders will take place from 7 to 8 June 2017 at Hotel Villa Lapas, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The meeting will be held back to back to the Global Dialogue on Oceans, on the occasion of the celebrations of World Oceans Day, which will take place from 8 to 9 June 2017 at at Villa Caletas. This Regional Consultation will be a unique opportunity for the Latin American and Caribbean Major Groups and Stakeholders to prepare and provide inputs for the 2017 UN Environment Assembly, which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya in December 2017.

Regional Consultation Meeting Africa 2017
Regional Consultation Meeting for Africa Major Groups and Stakeholders will take place on 10-11 June 2017 prior to the 16th Session of the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN) which will take place 12-16 June 2017 at the Radison Blu Hotel in Libreville, Gabon.
The meeting will be used to brief and prepare the Africa Major Groups and Stakeholders for the 16th Session of the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN), as well as the 2017 UN Environment Assembly to be held in Nairobi in December 2017.

Asia-Pacific Civil Society Forum on Sustainable Development
Asia-Pacific Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism (APRCEM) is a civil society platform aimed to enable stronger cross constituency coordination and ensure that voices of all sub-regions of Asia Pacific are heard in intergovernmental processes in regional and global level. The platform is initiated, owned and driven by the CSOs, and seeks to engage with UN agencies and Member States across the region on the issue of sustainable development. As an open, inclusive, and flexible mechanism, Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism (RCEM) is designed to reach the broadest number of CSOs in the region, harness the voice of grassroots and peoples’ movements to advance development justice that address the inequalities of wealth, power, resources between countries, between rich and poor and between men and women.
Objective:
- Inform and build capacity of civil society participants on sustainable development at the global and regional levels, and on the opportunities and modalities for engaging these processes;
- Provide a space for dialogue on the structure and content of the APFSD with its’ theme “Eradicating Poverty and Promoting Prosperity in Changing Asia and Pacific” and upcoming UNEA-3 with the theme “Pollution Free Planet”. The CSO Forum will formulate joint civil society positions building on Asia-Pacific civil society messages on 2030 Agenda and Regional Roadmap, as well as strategize interventions at the APFSD
- Facilitate sharing and exchange on critical issues faced by the various constituencies and discuss alignments and areas of partnership/cooperation;
- Reflect on the work of Asia Pacific Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism in 2015-2017.
- Agree on joint actions and follow up to civil society positions adopted.

UN Environment North America Office
On 2 December, the North America Office convened a stakeholder consultation, “Global Environment Outlook and Pathways to Sustainability,” at the University of Ottawa. The event featured expert panellists who discussed key findings and policy recommendations from the UN Environment’s Global Environment Outlook North American Regional Assessment. It also served to share the latest progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and information about the third UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-3) to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in December 2017. Over 60 participants from civil society and government participated in the event. The consultation featured the election of Christian Ledwell of the International Institute for Sustainable Development as one of the two North American Major Groups and Stakeholders Representative. A U.S. Representative will be elected at a consultation to be held in Washington, D.C. on February 9, 2017.
