Objective of the Meeting

The sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) will be held from 26 February to 1 March 2024 at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme: Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The sixth meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR) will take place from 19 to 23 February 2024.

The UNEP Regional Office for West Asia, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia (MEWA), is organizing a preparatory meeting for the upcoming sixth session of UNEA to be held in Riyadh, 15-16 January 2024. The objective of the meeting is to enhance awareness of the UNEA-6 process, themes, resolutions, and topics. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange information and views on the agenda as well as bringing about the regional priorities as conveyed from the Arab Forum for Environment (AFEN2) and CAMRE. The meeting will be facilitated by UNEP and a brief report, including recommendations, will be issued after the meeting.
