About the event

With the upcoming deadline for Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR)2 in December 2026, the event on gender-responsive reporting provides a timely impetus for advancing gender integration in countries’ BTR preparation processes, in line with the Belém Gender Action Plan. Beyond an introduction to the forthcoming toolkit on Gender-responsive Biennial Transparency Reports, the side event will feature country experiences on their journey in integrating gender into national reporting processes as well as expert discussions on good practices, prevailing challenges, and practical use cases of the toolkit.

This toolkit is an initiative of the Capacity-building Initiative for Transparency – Global Support Programme (CBIT-GSP), implemented by UNEP and executed by UNEP-CCC, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Planet Hub. This initiative builds on an earlier collaboration between the UNDP Gender Team and the UNDP-UNEP Global Support Programme, which delivered the Gender Responsive National Communications Toolkit in 2015.

Overall, the side event aims to:

  • Introduce the upcoming Gender-Responsive BTR Toolkit and showcase its practical application to advance gender integration in BTR cycles and Parties’ reporting (and policy) processes.
  • Demonstrate how the Toolkit supports implementation of the ETF and strengthens gender responsive NDC implementation, including its alignment with priorities of the Belém Gender Action Plan.
  • Learn from countries that have already integrated gender in their reporting processes (BTR1)
  • Foster peer exchange among transparency teams, national gender and climate change focal points, and technical experts on practical entry points for gender-responsive climate reporting.
  • Encourage uptake of the Toolkit as a resource to strengthen gender-responsive transparency systems and inform broader UNFCCC processes
