This is an official side event of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2023

Organised by the governments of Mexico and Colombia, and their partners, this session will present the Freshwater Challenge to the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) countries, with the aim of creating political momentum towards UNFCCC COP28 and mobilising action to restore degraded freshwater ecosystems in the continent. All the countries in the region engaged in conserving these precious ecosystems are invited to join the side event at the LAC regional climate week, present their priorities, and share their on-going and planned activities on freshwater and climate change at the event. The session will also aim to identify countries and stakeholders that want to join the Freshwater Challenge and announce their engagement at the COP28 high-level ministerial on protection and restoration of freshwater ecosystems in Dubai, UAE, on Sunday 10th December (Food, Agriculture and Water Day).
