Time: 10:00-11:15 BRT

Location: Japan Pavilion, COP30

The government of Japan and the European Commission will convene a ministerial meeting at COP30 to promote the mission of UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) to translate the world’s methane ambition into action through open, reliable and actionable data.

Hosted at the Japan Pavilion, the meeting will convene ministers, industry leaders and civil society representatives to showcase the impact of IMEO’s data-driven solutions for methane mitigation, the fastest, most cost-effective way to immediately slow the rate of climate change.

The event will launch the updated IMEO Eye on Methane data platform, which provides authoritative and policy-relevant insights on the world’s methane emissions to support governments, industry and civil society in this crucial climate effort. It will also highlight the partnership between IMEO and Japan-led initiatives, such as the CLEAN initiative and the greenhouse gas-monitoring satellite GOSAT-GW.

IMEO is a core implementing partner of the Global Methane Pledge, through which more than 155 countries have committed to reducing global methane emissions by 30 per cent of 2020 levels this decade.
