The year 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, a milestone for Member States and global climate governance. In light of the upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), expected to continue to be submitted throughout 2025 ahead of COP30 in Brazil, this Workshop will discuss how nature-based solutions (NbS) can be integrated into NDC adaptation activities to drive local climate and nature action.
Moreover, this Technical Consultation and Workshop will examine how climate frameworks, such as NDCs, National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPAs), NDC Implementation Plans (NDC IPs) and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), can be leveraged to strengthen both national and local efforts to advance urban NbS for climate adaptation.
The interplay between national and local climate adaptation ambition and implementation is critical. Urban nature-based solutions (NbS) can play a significant role in addressing climate impacts, which are increasingly felt at the city level, while simultaneously contributing to broader objectives such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Technical Consultation Workshop will explore and showcase case studies from different countries, highlighting effective mechanisms to strengthen the connection between local and national climate adaptation efforts. The focus will be on NbS for cities.
