Description: 

The Breakthrough Agenda Report is an annual collaboration between the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the United Nations Climate Change High-Level Champions (HLCs). It focusses on the need for strong and targeted international collaboration in high emissions sectors to deliver transitions that are faster, easier and cheaper for all. The report also examines the advances made and actions needed to meet the goals of the Breakthrough Agenda, a commitment signed by 48 countries representing close to 80% of global economic output and which announced a Partnership with the COP28 Presidency in Jan 2023.

• The Breakthrough Agenda Report released in September 2023 shows that current efforts on clean energy and sustainable solutions, while improving, are not yet delivering the levels of investment and deployment required to meet international climate goals.
• It calls on all stakeholders to strengthen international collaboration on key issues such as – financial and technical assistance; research and innovation; standards and regulation; and market creation – to turbocharge the transition.
• In accordance with the theme of Track 2, this event will focus on three sectors: Climate resilient built environment (Buildings), Green infrastructure (Low carbon steel and cement) and Low carbon mobility (Road transportation and clean public transportation).
• It will collect the perspectives of non-state actors in the Asia Pacific on regional trends, assessment of implementation challenges and will provide an opportunity to showcase how leading organizations are creating impact by use of relevant case studies

This session of the Asia-Pacific Climate Week aims to highlight the importance of international cooperation and the need to integrate the perspectives of non-party stakeholders in the process of delivering ambitious climate outcomes. It will lead to:

• Accelerating action on mobilising investment, research and innovation, standards and trade in three sectors to bring down the price of crucial technologies and sustainable solutions.
• Coordinating regional action on the recommendations of the 2023 Breakthrough Agenda Report by partnering with non-state actors.
• Providing a platform to non-party stakeholders to showcase their impact through case studies and success stories in the region.
