Pacific Island Countries are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, facing rising sea levels, stronger tropical cyclones and growing threats to livelihoods, ecosystems and economies. At the same time, the region continues to demonstrate global leadership through ambitious climate commitments, community-driven resilience, ocean stewardship and Indigenous knowledge.
Following the submission of the latest generation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0), the focus now shifts from ambition to implementation. Translating these commitments into coordinated, finance-ready action requires countries to prioritize investments, strengthen institutional coordination, mobilize climate finance and build implementation pathways that reflect the Pacific's unique circumstances and development priorities.
The Pacific Peer Exchange Workshop on NDC Implementation: From Preparation to Coordinated Action will bring together government representatives from across Pacific Island Countries alongside regional organizations, development partners and international institutions to exchange practical experiences and lessons learned on implementing NDCs. Organized by the Regional Pacific NDC Hub, the UNFCCC Secretariat and its Regional Collaboration Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RCC Asia-Pacific), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the NDC Partnership and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the workshop provides a dedicated platform for peer learning and collaboration.
Through interactive discussions, country exchanges and working sessions, participants will explore approaches to translating NDCs into actionable implementation pathways, prioritizing and sequencing climate investments, strengthening coordination across government institutions, and unlocking finance through national, regional and innovative financing mechanisms.
Taking place ahead of the UNFCCC Pre-COP in the Pacific, the workshop offers a timely opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation, showcase Pacific leadership, and elevate the region's priorities and solutions on the road to COP31.
