What: The Sustaining an Abundance of Forest Ecosystems (SAFE Initiative) is a joint initiative by the Korea Forest Service (KFS) and the UN Environment Programme, to respond to the twin challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss through accelerating local action for the conservation and restoration of vulnerable forest ecosystems with high biodiversity value. The SAFE Initiative is funded by KFS and will be implemented by UNEP from 2023 to 2030. At the upcoming COP27, KFS and UNEP will have a private signing ceremony, followed by a bilateral meeting to discuss implementation priorities and guidelines.
