The Second Quadripartite One Health Workshop in Asia
25-27 November 2025
Bangkok, Thailand (Hybrid)
Background
One Health is an integrated, multisectoral approach that addresses health threats at the human- animal-environment interface. It aims to improve the health of people, animals, and ecosystems by recognizing their interdependence. Economic and social progress, alongside the Triple Planetary Crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution—has intensified health threats, including pandemics that disproportionately affect vulnerable groups. As global recognition of One Health grows, coordinated, cross-sectoral action and strong health systems are essential to reduce risks and protect the health of people, animals, and the planet.
In this context, collaborative approaches like One Health are essential, integrating knowledge across disciplines and sectors. One Health has gained global, regional, and national recognition, especially following the definition by the One Health High-Level Expert Panel as an integrated, unifying approach to sustainably optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems. Guided by the One Health Joint Plan of Action (OH JPA), the Quadripartite—FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH—supports countries in advancing One Health, including in Asia. The OH JPA and its Implementation Guide provide a framework to scale up and coordinate efforts based on existing initiatives. In the Asia- Pacific region, the Regional Tripartite partners have strengthened multisectoral collaboration through regular workshops since 2010. With the addition of UNEP and establishment of the Asia- Pacific Quadripartite in 2022, the regular coordination workshop has been renamed as the Asia- Pacific Quadripartite One Health Workshop in 2023. At the workshop in 2023, it was recommended that the Quadripartite organize the next Quadripartite One Health Workshop in 2025 to review progress in implementation of OH JPA at the country level. The Pacific One Health Workshop (August 2024) aimed to provide targeted support and opportunities for the Pacific Island Developing States to gain knowledge on One Health and have regional dialogues and exchange.
Building on the collaborative work over the past years, the 2nd Quadripartite One Health Workshop for Asia provides an opportunity to take stock of, and highlight, progress made on One Health in the region, including the implementation of the OH JPA, and to highlight joint Quadripartite efforts in Asia. The ultimate aim of the meeting is to enhance the multisectoral coordination and collaboration at the human-animal-environment interface, promote knowledge exchange, networking and building partnerships between key stakeholders and partners involved in One Health initiatives in the region.
The workshop is being organized with financial support from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), the European Union (EU), and the Pandemic Fund (hosted by the World Bank).
