From mountains and forests to wetlands and peatlands, healthy ecosystems provide the landscapes that make outdoor sports possible. Join us to advance the global Sport for Nature agenda and explore how the sport sector can help accelerate investment in nature:
Sport and nature are more interconnected than we often realise. The ecosystems that support outdoor sports are increasingly threatened by climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. Building on the UNEA-7 resolution on sustainable solutions through sport for a resilient planet, and linked to the REWET Horizon Europe project, the Global Peatlands Initiative is co-organising this event to bring together athletes, scientists, sport organisations, businesses, and policymakers to explore how the USD 2.3 trillion sport sector can help address the USD 351 billion annual funding gap for nature.
This event will bring together speakers from the UNEP Global Peatlands Initiative, IUCN, and the Kilian Jornet Foundation. The session will conclude with an interactive workshop where participants will help shape a Nature & Sport Challenge strategy and identify opportunities for collective action.
