The Special Programme 10th Executive Board meeting was held in person in Geneva between the 17 to 19 March 2025. During the meeting, the Executive Board celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Special Programme and took note of the successes and achievements of the projects approved for funding to date. This included a presentation of the results of the second assessment of closed projects and also approved a new logo for the Special Programme.

 

Financial situation of the Special Programme Trust Fund 

The Board took note of the resource mobilization efforts being undertaken by the secretariat, which is working to secure funds to support the operations of the Special Programme through its extended duration to 2030, in line with UNEA resolution 5/7 paragraph 16. 

As established in the Special Programme terms of reference, all signatories and parties to the conventions and other Governments with the capacity to do so, as well as the private sector, including industry, foundations and non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders, are encouraged to contribute to the Special Programme Trust Fund. Approval of the eighth round of funding

Notwithstanding the financial situation, the Executive Board provisionally approved eight new projects under the eighth round of funding, conditional upon the identification of funds to support their implementation. The eight approved projects were submitted by Ethiopia, Mexico, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Namibia, Antigua and Barbuda and Serbia.
