Date: 17 June 2025
Time: 15h00 - 16h30 CEST
Organizers: This webinar is organized by the Food is Never Waste Coalition, co-led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and World Resources Institute (WRI).
Description:
This webinar will showcase how cities and local governments are leading on food loss and waste (FLW) reduction, identifying challenges and exploring effective strategies for accelerating progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 (SDG 12.3), to halve per global food waste and reduce food losses by 2030.
With 70% of the world’s food consumed in urban areas, cities have a critical role in shaping circular food systems and driving targeted interventions such as food recovery, behaviour change, and improved waste management. The webinar will foster dialogue among sub-national authorities, national governments, and international partners, strengthen collaboration, and promote knowledge exchange to enhance FLW reduction initiatives. Participants will gain valuable insights from pioneering city-level actions, learn from diverse regional experiences, and identify key enabling factors and concrete next steps needed to scale up FLW reduction over the next five years.
Live interpretation will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
