Sargassum seaweed blooms have increased dramatically in recent years, affecting coastal ecosystems, local economies, public health, and tourism across multiple regions. The scale and frequency of these events highlight the urgent need for coordinated, science-based and cross-sectoral responses at national, regional, and global levels.

This webinar is designed to set the stage for a deeper understanding of the resolution on “strengthening the global response to the massive influx of sargassum seaweed blooms” adopted at the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7).

The aim of this webinar is to clarify why coordinated international action is urgently needed, outline the environmental and socio‑economic impacts driving this momentum, and highlight the opportunities the resolution creates for stronger science, policy alignment, and regional collaboration.
