• Overview

Background

Environmental decision-making in West Asia is increasingly dependent on the availability of reliable, timely, and actionable data to address pressing challenges such as water scarcity, pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Across the region, many countries continue to face persistent and systemic barriers that limit the effectiveness of their environmental data systems.

Data governance is what enables environmental data to be reliable, interoperable, and fit for purpose.

Purpose

This first workshop marks a foundational step in a multi-session regional initiative to strengthen environmental data governance in West Asia. It aims to foster a shared understanding among national stakeholders of the importance of effective data governance, its role in enabling evidence-based policymaking, and the ways it can be enhanced through coordinated action.

Target participants

The workshop will convene key stakeholders involved in managing, using, or influencing environmental data systems
