The 2024 International Workshop on Methane Observation and Quantification, hosted by the China University of Mining Technology and co-hosted by UNEP, convened over 140 experts in person and 500 online to address crucial methane emission challenges.

Dr. Robert A. Field of UNEP's International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) spotlighted key projects enhancing our understanding of coal mine emissions, as well as IMEO's role providing policy-relevant methane data to enable action. With 36 talks covering diverse emission sources and innovative quantification tools, the workshop facilitated vital knowledge exchange.

Representatives from 33 organizations, including universities, shared insights, providing crucial technical references for Chinese authorities and industries to combat methane emissions. Emphasizing mitigation's pivotal role in global warming reduction, the event fostered collaboration and laid groundwork for ongoing international cooperation.
