During 28-30 January 2020 UN Environment Programme/Chemicals and Health Branch in collaboration with Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions Secretariat offered technical support in delivering the Regional Training Workshop on Stockholm Convention Reporting, organized in Port of Spain by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Caribbean Region in Trinidad and Tobago.

Objectives: The training objectives were to:

  • Improve the understanding on the reporting obligations and the Electronic Reporting System under the Stockholm Convention.
  • Provide a platform for the countries to share success stories and challenges on reporting.
  • Increase the understanding on the interlinkages between NIP generated information/data and reporting obligations.
  • Conduct practical exercise on information/data compilation and completing the latest version of the Art. 15 reporting format.

Organizers: Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Caribbean Region in Trinidad and Tobago with the technical support from UN Environment Programme/Chemicals and Health Branch and Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions.

Target audience: 14 participating countries (OCP or NFP and their alternates) from Caribbean region served by the Basel Convention Regional Centre for the Caribbean Region in Trinidad and Tobago.

Outcomes: During the workshop, participating countries benefited from the training provided by the UN Environment Programme and Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions Secretariat on the:

  • reporting obligations and formats under the Stockholm Convention;
  • Electronic Reporting System (ERS) for Art. 15 reporting;
  • interlinkages between NIP generated information/data and reporting obligations.

Participating countries shared their success stories and challenges in respect to the reporting under the Stockholm Convention. Moreover, the participants worked in groups to identify within the NIP relevant data (both qualitative and quantitative) to be reported and initiated the Art. 15 report completion via ERS demo.

Not least, options to streamline the reporting process at the national level, as well as considerations for next reporting cycle and the concept of the integrated electronic toolkit currently under development, were shared with the participating countries.
