• Overview

UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) will host a Technical Training Workshop for government and company stakeholders of Uzbekistan on satellite-based methane detection and response in the oil and gas sector, while strengthening engagement with IMEO’s Methane Alert and Response System (MARS).

The workshop is organized by IMEO in partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), with technical support from Carbon Limits. It aims to strengthen national capacity to identify, understand and mitigate methane emissions using advanced satellite technologies, while improving engagement with IMEO’s MARS

The training will focus on methane emission sources in the oil and gas sector, the role of satellite-based detection technologies, and practical approaches to interpreting and acting on satellite data. Participants will engage with real-world case studies, including country-specific analysis for Uzbekistan, and develop hands-on skills in identifying emission sources, responding to MARS notifications and improving national inventories.

This workshop will gather key decision makers, and technical experts , including representatives from ministries, oil and gas companies, national research institutions, and public and private sector oil and gas specialists from public or private companies, in addition to individuals from technical organizations and institutes working on methane data analysis and satellite monitoring.
