Objectives of the meeting
The meeting of the West Asia Air Quality Network aims to foster a coordinated approach for air quality management in West Asia. The specific objective is to strengthen regional collaboration on air quality management among West Asian countries by enhancing coordination, cohesion, and identify work priorities for collective action.
The capacity-building workshop is designed to support countries in developing effective air quality control measures. Its specific objectives are to:
- Enhance the technical capabilities of national air quality managers and policymakers in formulating national air quality strategies and action plans.
- Provide practical knowledge for designing sector-specific emission reduction measures, particularly in high-impact sectors.
Participants
The meeting is designed for policy officials and technical personnel from line ministries and national agencies who are involved in air quality management in West Asia. Representatives from ministries or government bodies responsible for air quality management (e.g. ministries of environment – industry – transport – energy – municipalities) will be invited from each of the following countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. UN agencies and active regional institutions working on air pollution in West Asia will also be invited to participate. Around 50 participants are expected to be in attendance.
