Support to chemicals and wastes MEAs and SAICM implementation in Kenya
Update on Project Results
Kenya developed a National Chemical Policy which is linked to the Kenya Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. The inter-ministerial and inter-sectoral coordination committee on Sound Chemical Management (MCCSCM) was established and launched with the mandate to guide on the issues of chemicals and waste in the country including endorsing draft policies and regulations. Kenya has also established a chemical portal with the necessary legal and policy framework established to support the development and sustainability of the database. The project also facilitated development of a Framework of Cooperation which is a document to guide on the data sharing modalities, the monitoring protocol to guide on comparability of data, and the development of that Pollutant Release and Transfers and Register (PRTR).
