The Forum gathers the adaptation community to foster knowledge exchange, innovation, and mutual support for a better tomorrow. We invite you to join the convening of adaptation practitioners from around the country focused on moving beyond adaptation awareness and planning to adaptation action. The Forum includes opportunities for professional development through formal training sessions, facilitated practitioner presentations, and informal exchange of information in the form of in-person gatherings and online. The Forum affords adaptation practitioners the opportunity to learn more about how to make their work climate-smart, share what they have learned with others, and develop a stronger network to be climate savvy in all that they do.

We are at a pivotal moment where we see risk and vulnerability to the impacts of a changing climate entering into the discourse of decision-makers at all levels of policy and natural resource management. Managers working at a local, state, regional, and federal level are beginning to respond to climate impacts. Engaged members of civil society are organizing their communities to improve futures for all people and mobilizing action to protect the places they care about. However, the field of climate adaptation is still in its infancy and too many are reinventing instead of innovating. With climate jeopardizing society’s past, present, and future efforts to thrive, the need for practical climate adaptation solutions has never been greater. 

The goal of the National Adaptation Forum is to provide guidance through the steps of the adaptation process, as well as share the spectrum of adaptation activities in the United States and around the world today. Training sessions, symposiums, and webinars aim to be cross-sectoral in an effort to demonstrate the integrated nature of successful adaptation. As such, they engage multiple perspectives, either across sectors, geographies, or stakeholders (e.g. national, tribal, regional, state, local, private, non-profit, educational).

Our Goals

1. Provide a professional development opportunity for  adaptation practitioners
2. Contribute to the development of a community of practice around climate adaptation
3. Create a space for practitioners to share information, progress, and strategy, building the capacity of the community as a whole and the individual
4. Support on the ground implementation by providing practitioners with a community  to exchange knowledge of and tools for incorporating climate adaptation into their work
