The UNFCCC Adaptation Committee invites adaptation experts from international organizations and other relevant initiatives, as well as government representatives to discuss the adaptation-related outcomes of COP 28 and brainstorm opportunities and avenues for further collaboration to accelerate adaptation progress. Taking place more than a decade after the first Adaptation Forum was held in 2013, and during a year when all three Rio Conventions will hold negotiating sessions, the 2024 Forum represents a timely moment to take stock and connect the dots between the UNFCCC process and the wider multilateral landscape. Overall, the Forum will aim to promote solutions towards achieving the global goal on adaptation.
The development of the GAN involved a broad UNEP-facilitated consultative process, including an international consultation meeting and four regional consultations.
