When: Thursday 25 August 2022 at 11:00am-12.30pm (GMT+2)

Where: NAP Expo, Gaborone International Conference Center, Botswana (in-person only)

The importance of climate adaptation and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) was echoed in the famous Paris Agreement and the subsequent international financing that has been mobilized to support the implementation of NAPs. As outlined in the Least Developed Countries Expert Group’s (LEG’s) NAP Technical Guidelines, there are key building blocks that will enable the successful implementation of NAPs, including ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA), to achieve climate-resilient development.

Co-hosted by UNEP, UNDP and the NAP Global Network, the objective of this session at the upcoming NAP Expo will be to engage in a participatory dialogue with NAP practitioners and stakeholders to review and identify the barriers, solutions, opportunities and key requirements for enabling effective NAP implementation.

At the end of the session, participants will have gained an understanding of:

  • Key factors that contribute to the implementation of NAPs, including mainstreaming and financing strategies.
  • The potential barriers and solutions for effective NAP implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Constitution of an informal network of NAP practitioners focusing on implementation.
