This session aims to foster enhance understanding among participants of the Loss and Damage Fund's potential and to initiate a dialogue on strategic actions necessary to enhance its impact in the region. Considering the outcomes from COP28, the webinar will discuss the different elements and considerations in operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund. It will also seek to identify actionable steps for countries and stakeholders on tackling the Loss and Damage Fund ahead of COP29.

Webinar objectives:

  • Enhance understanding of adaptation practitioners on the Loss and Damage Fund operational arrangements;
  • Gather insights and expectations from governments and NGOs/CSOs regarding the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund;
  • Unpack the perceived impacts, anticipated outcomes, expected operationalization timeframe, and access recommendations for the Fund;  
  • Explore policy requirements for operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund in respective countries; and,
  • 1Identify challenges and potential solutions for effectively operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund.

This technical webinar is organised and hosted by the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN), UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Center for Asia and the Pacific (UNFCCC – RCC) and Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP).
