Biography

Global Coordinator for Adaptation Policy and Partnerships and oversees the Global Adaptation Network. Alvin previously coordinated UNEP’s partnership and programmes with the Green Climate Fund. Much of Alvin’s work has focused on loss and damage, innovative finance, technology, and digital solutions in favour of joint adaptation and mitigation actions. Prior to joining the UNEP, he worked for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat, where he was responsible for loss and damage stream of negotiations, including the launch of the Santiago Network.  He has worked for several development agencies and private sector, including the, UNDP-GEF, Green Climate Fund Secretariat, GIZ, IUCN, Caritas Swiss and Oxfam. Alvin holds a PhD in climate sciences, agriculture and international development from the University of Queensland (Australia). He has served as lead author for the UNEP Global Environment Outlook 6 and an expert reviewer of the IPCC Special Reports on Ocean and Cryosphere, and Climate Change and Land. He hails from the Pacific Islands and a national of Fiji and Australia.
